Turkey, specifically the city of Mersin, has seen a surge in the production of dragon fruit, also known as pitaya. The fruit, known for its high yield, easy cultivation, and long shelf life, is becoming increasingly popular for its health benefits. In 2020, dragon fruit production in Mersin expanded to 119 decares, with 44 producers. The fruit is primarily grown in several districts and is sold domestically and exported to European countries and other Middle Eastern nations. Oğuzhan Kılıç, a consultant in Erdemli district, anticipates a yield of 40 to 50 thousand fruits from 5 acres this season, with plans to export to countries such as Russia, Kuwait, Egypt, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia.
