From July 2020 to September 2020, Vietnam experienced a significant surge in cassava chip exports, with a volume of 418.38 thousand tons and a value of $ 95.41 million, marking a 101.1% increase in volume and 94% increase in value compared to the same period last year. The majority of these exports, 85.8%, were sent to China, followed by Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. The average export price to China was $220.8 per ton, marking a 3.7% increase from the previous year. This surge in exports is attributed to the decreasing cassava chip reserves in China, estimated to be around 50 million tons, and the expected decline in supply due to leaf mosaic disease in cassava-growing areas.
