Morocco is facing a severe water crisis due to six years of drought, with dam filling rates falling below 30%, indicating a challenging agricultural season. The government has implemented measures to conserve water, including suspending irrigation in all areas except two, and banning well drilling in most regions. The agricultural sector, which consumes over 85% of water resources, is of particular concern. The Green Morocco Plan, aimed at promoting modern irrigation and increasing crop productivity, has been criticized for promoting water-intensive crops. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture has initiated the 'Green Generation' strategy, focusing on cultivating less water-intensive crops like carob, almond, and fig, and setting targets to expand the cultivation areas of these crops.
