In 2024, Vietnamese durian exports experienced a significant surge, with China importing 90% of the total revenue, marking a 43% increase from the previous year. The fruit also found popularity in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan, contributing to a 27% increase in the overall fruit and vegetable export revenue, reaching 7.1 billion USD. The industry saw growth in other fruits such as bananas, jackfruit, mangoes, and coconuts, with China allowing the export of fresh Vietnamese coconuts and passion fruit to the US. However, a temporary increase in border inspections by the EU on Vietnamese durian was required due to non-compliance with pesticide residue regulations. The Vietnam SPS Office has urged farmers to adhere to EU regulations and shift towards organic farming.
