In 2020, Kazakhstan's fisheries and aquaculture sector saw a 17.3% increase in value and a 14.8% real growth, with the sector's total output reaching 12.4 billion tenge. The Turkestan region contributed the most to this growth, followed by Kyzylorda and East Kazakhstan. Despite this, the Atyrau region, traditionally known for fishing, experienced a 14.7% decrease in production. The catch volume remained roughly the same as the previous year, with freshwater bream being the most caught species. The consumption of feed for marketable fish and fish seed material increased by 78.4% compared to 2019. Additionally, fish and seafood prices rose by 9.3% annually and 0.5% monthly in June 2021.
