Canadian durum wheat exports have seen a significant increase this season, reaching one million tonnes, which is 43% more than the previous year. Two-thirds of the volume was shipped from Vancouver, with the rest from Thunder Bay. The increased exports are attributed to the Panama Canal returning to normal traffic levels. In November and December, three Panamax-sized vessels are expected to be shipped from Vancouver through the Panama Canal to the port of Bari in southern Italy. Additionally, Turkey has also been exporting durum wheat, with most of it going to Algeria. Italy's imports of durum wheat have also increased due to a poor harvest, with Canada, Greece, and Spain making up for the drop in non-EU imports. Analysts predict that Italy will need to increase its import rates in the coming months.
