[Agricultural and Fisheries News=Reporter Kim Shin-ji] Concerns are growing over the sustainability of dairy farming as dairy products from the United States and the European Union (EU) will enter the domestic market duty-free starting next year under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Currently, the tariff rate applied to U.S. dairy products has gradually decreased from 4.8% last year to 2.4% this year, while the tariff rate for European products has dropped from 33.8% in 2011 to 4.5% last year and 2.3% this year. This decline in tariff rates poses significant challenges for the domestic dairy industry and dairy farming sector. In particular, the influx of imported dairy products such as sterilized milk, cheese, and powdered milk at low prices is expected to increase further.
