The third edition of the Santa Catarina Seed Congress, scheduled for July 2 and 3 in Chapecó, SC, will focus on the economic losses caused by the use of pirated seeds in Brazil. The annual loss is estimated to be R$2.5 billion nationwide and R$300 million in Santa Catarina. The congress will also discuss the importance of combating seed piracy and the risks of using seeds of dubious origin, as well as propose changes to Brazilian legislation to more severely penalize those involved in the use of illegal seeds. Other topics to be discussed include the latest developments in seed production regulation and fungi associated with soybean and corn seeds.
