Colombia is emerging as a significant player in the global blueberry industry due to its proximity to the United States, domestic demand, and ability to produce blueberries year-round. The country's blueberry export industry has not yet seen significant growth due to the inability to meet domestic demand and the slow pace of new plantings. However, domestic sales volumes are growing strongly, with around 95% of the national blueberry volume consumed locally. Colombia's export prospects depend on the implementation of a systems approach for the United States market, and the country has also gained access to the Canadian market. The availability of plant material, especially proprietary varieties, hinders the ability to fill the domestic supply gap.
