The Solvent Extractors’ Association (SEA) of India has encouraged its members to lower the maximum retail price (MRP) of edible oils by 10-15% in order to benefit consumers during the holiday season. Leading edible oil producers such as Adani Wilmar, Ruchi Soya, Emami, Bunge, Gemini, COFCO, Frigorifico Allana, and Gokul Agro have already reduced their prices. The decision was made following a meeting between the SEA and Sudhanshu Pandey, the secretary of the department of food and public distribution, who pointed out the discrepancy between the reduced import duty and the high MRPs on consumer packs.
