Sales of glass eels generated one million euros in 2025, with an average price of 430 euros per kilo, while the commercialization of eels amounted to 80,000 euros, with an average price of 14 euros/kilo. The figures, provided to Efeagro by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), reflect the declared sales notes. They indicate that 60 tons of eel were commercialized in Spain, while in the case of glass eel the economic value is higher despite the volume sold being much lower, below three tons. The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) will propose at the next Committee of Flora and Fauna, to be held on February 17, declaring the eel "endangered" within the List of Wild Species under Special Protection Regime (Lespre).
