The landings of the eel resource are mainly destined for the frozen sector, for export purposes. According to the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), in 2023, the main destinations for eel exports are South Korea (56%) and Japan (33%).

The Peruvian eel fishery (Ophichthus remiger) is mainly developed on the northern coast of the country and constitutes an activity of great economic and social importance for hundreds of people. This has been a stable fishery in recent years, with its production destined for specific Asian markets (Japan and Korea), where the eel is valued as a gastronomic product. Its responsible exploitation is key to ensuring the sustainability of the resource, the conservation of marine ecosystems, and the permanence of this activity as a source of income and local employment. In this regard, WWF and Sakana del Perú have been working on the implementation of the TrazApp system in all their operations.
