The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has raised concerns about the European Commission's (EC) proposed amendments to animal transport regulations, warning that they could severely impact livestock farms and potentially lead to closures. While the EESC supports harmonized compliance, it emphasizes the need for practical input from stakeholders such as farmers, transporters, and veterinarians. The committee calls for a detailed impact study, specific funding, and amendments to the proposal to consider the experience of transporters, ensure costs do not burden the sector, and address issues like increased CO2 emissions and supply chain impacts. Additionally, the EESC stresses the importance of ensuring equivalent conditions for imports in trade agreements.
