Dhaka's Tejgaon wholesale market has halted egg sales due to fears of government price enforcement actions, causing concerns about an egg shortage and price hikes in retail markets. The government has set a maximum price for dozens of brown broiler eggs, but traders say they cannot buy eggs at the required price and risk fines. This situation comes amidst a daily shortfall of 50 lakh eggs due to flooding, reducing the supply from 4.5 crore eggs per day to 4 crore. The government has permitted the import of 4.5 crore eggs to stabilize the market, but egg prices have still increased by Tk10-15 per dozen in the last two days.
