Egypt has emerged as the largest exporter of fresh garden strawberries to Malaysia in the 2021/22 season, significantly increasing its exports to the Southeast Asian market, where it now ranks fifth. Exporting over 740 tons to Malaysia in the 2021/22 season, Egypt has outpaced its competition, with South Korea being the only notable competitor. The Southeast Asian market imports approximately 16,000 tons of strawberries annually, with Malaysia showing the most significant increase in imports over the past five seasons. Other countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan have seen either a decrease or stable imports, while Indonesia has shown a quarterly increase. The supply dynamics in the region are dominated by the United States, Australia, South Korea, Japan, and Egypt, with each country providing a significant share of exports at different times of the year.
