Egyptian potato producer Abdelkader Alhabony has reported a significant increase in potato production, estimating an additional 2.5 million tonnes due to large areas recently reclaimed by government projects. However, this is disputed by another grower who predicts volumes will remain the same as last season due to frost damage, and anticipates a price increase due to high demand. A third grower suggests the increase in acreage is no more than 10% and expects export volumes to rise due to high demand and the devaluation of the Egyptian pound.
