This figure includes 69.8 million market hogs and 6 million breeding pigs. Between September and November 2024, 35.2 million pigs were weaned, marking a 2% increase from the same period last year. The average number of pigs weaned per litter during this period was 11.92. US hog producers forecasted that 2.93 million sows would farrow between December 2024 and February 2025, with an additional 2.95 million sows expected to farrow between March 2025 and May 2025. As of December, Iowa was home to the largest hog inventory in the US, with 24.6 million head, followed by Minnesota and North Carolina with 9.5 million and 8.2 million head, respectively.
