Adhering to the strategic objective of promoting value addition for the economic viability of rural enterprises, Epagri encourages residents of Santa Catarina to diversify the productions on their properties. And for this, it holds events where it is possible to learn about new crops and seek inspiration from those who are already achieving good results. An example of this was the Field Day held last Wednesday, the 24th, in Palmeira, a municipality with 2,700 inhabitants and located about 40 kilometers from Lages. Farmers from various municipalities were invited to visit the property where the fruit grower Celso Claudino and his son-in-law, João Carneiro, bring to life Palm Berries. The area of just two hectares – 20,000 square meters – is nestled among gigantic pine forests of the family. On the site, Celso and João cultivate about three thousand blueberry plants.
