Renovating varieties, promoting the planting of the best cultivars, and encouraging interaction among farmers are some of the objectives of the cassava cultivar evaluation activities held on October 7 and 17 in the municipalities of Arvoredo and Irati, in Western Santa Catarina. Ivan Tormen, an extensionist and coordinator of the Epagri Training Center in Chapecó (Cetrec), explains that the 24 varieties of cassava produced at the unit went through the preliminary phase of productivity analysis and moved on to the evaluation stage of cooking time and taste. For this, a special activity was set up with the farmers from these municipalities so that they could assist in the selection process of the ten best cultivars. The selected cassava stems should be passed on to the five Cedups managed by Epagri and to the producers who participated in the evaluations.
