Epidermoptosis is a chronic disease in turkeys, primarily caused by the ticks Epidermoptes bilobatus and Rivoltasia bifurcate. The disease is more common in warm seasons and leads to symptoms such as skin redness, feather loss, weight loss, and a reduction in egg-laying capacity. It is transmitted from infected birds and can be lethal. To prevent the disease, turkey chicks are typically vaccinated within their first five days of life.
