In 2024, the Espírito Santo coffee complex saw a dramatic increase in exports to the European Union, with a nearly eightfold increase to 2.3 million bags, making it the largest export volume to the bloc in history. The European Union accounted for 42.7% of Espírito Santo's coffee exports in the same period, up from 15.6% the previous year, driven by growing demand. This surge generated a significant increase in foreign exchange earnings, with Belgium, Italy, and Germany being the main buyers. The quality improvement of Espírito Santo coffees, especially conilon, and external factors such as crop failures in Vietnam and international conflicts contributed to this growth. The growth in exports highlights the potential for further diversification and expansion within the European bloc.
