The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority has announced a notable increase in the country's coffee exports, with a significant surge in both volume and revenue. This growth is largely due to the implementation of sector reforms aimed at enhancing coffee production and productivity. In 2021, Ethiopia exported 298,000 tons of coffee, generating 1.43 billion USD in revenue. The country aims to further increase its exports to 400,000 tons in the current year, with an expected earnings of over 2 billion USD. The government's focus on the coffee industry, ongoing reforms, and the Green Legacy Initiative have been pivotal in achieving these results. The initiative has promoted large-scale coffee planting, rejuvenation of old plantations, and boosted production and income. Additionally, the initiative has streamlined the coffee supply chain, allowing for more direct communication and trade between suppliers and exporters, ensuring timely delivery of quality coffee. Furthermore, 40 farmers have been recognized for their special flavor coffee in a recent competition, showcasing the industry's progress and dedication to quality.
