Coldiretti, an Italian agricultural organization, has emphasized the importance of extending the safeguard clause to imports of cereals like wheat and corn from Ukraine to prevent market destabilization in Europe due to speculation. The clause has also been extended to honey imports, using 2021 and 2022 as the reference period for import quantities. The organization has raised concerns about price distortions in the community market due to the liberalization of exports to EU countries, which has resulted in about 60% of Ukrainian agricultural products arriving since the war began. Coldiretti has proposed using a portion of the EU funds for the Ukrainian emergency to purchase and store cereal products in European warehouses for countries facing severe food emergencies.
