The gross production of cereals in the EU for 2025/26 is estimated at 285.4 million tonnes, 4.1% above the average of the previous five years. So far, good climatic conditions have been observed for winter crops in the central and northern parts of the EU, as well as in the Iberian Peninsula, with particularly favorable conditions in some eastern countries. However, the persistent drought in areas such as Belgium and France is affecting spring and summer crops, while excessive rainfall is hampering winter crops in Italy. The EU cereal area is expected to increase by 2.4% in 2025/26, although it will still be 2% below the five-year average, driven by common and durum wheat, while maize, barley, and oat areas will decrease slightly. Yields are expected to improve across all cereals.
