EU peach and nectarine yield estimated at 3.6 million tonnes in 2023/24

For the 2023/24 season, EU peach and nectarine production is estimated at 3.6 million tonnes, while cherry production is estimated at 657,435 tonnes. Unfavorable growing conditions in key Member States are contributing to the decline in cherry yields, while in peaches and nectarines, poor performance in Italy is offset by better yields in Spain. The consumption of stone fruit in the EU is under pressure due to high inflation as a result of the war in Ukraine. European stone fruit growers and the fruit sector in general are concerned about the significant increase in EU regulations and requirements, especially in the areas of phytosanitary aspects, environment and packaging that have a direct impact on production costs.
