The Eurasian Economic Union (UEA) has increased import quotas for beef and pork, with zero tariffs, for processing in the bloc, which includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The Russian beef quota is 200 thousand tons for 2022, and the pork quota is 100,000 tonnes for the first half of 2022. Other member states also have quotas for beef and pork imports. Following a visit by Brazilian Minister Tereza Cristina to Moscow, Russia has reinstated approval for 16 Brazilian meatpacking plants, previously suspended since 2017 due to concerns about ractopamine. These developments have increased the number of Brazilian meat, poultry, and dairy establishments authorized to export to the UEA.
