Europe: There is an increase in the volumes of stone fruits

The stone fruit subgroup of the Expert Group of the Fruit and Vegetable Market Observatory of the European Commission, which includes sectoral representatives and experts from the different Member States, met this week to analyze the prospects for the campaign, anticipating a slight increase in production and reiterating the problem due to the lack of phytosanitary products. FEPEX, a member of the group, explained that at the meeting the campaign forecasts for peaches, nectarines and apricots were presented. Everything indicates that volumes will be slightly higher than last season in the main producing countries, in line with the forecasts made at the Europêch forum, held in May. In this forum, it was estimated that the 2024 campaign will amount to 3.4 million tons of peaches, nectarines and Paraguayans, which represents an increase of 4% compared to 2023 and 7% compared to the 2018/2022 average.
