The I3-4-Seaweed project, with participation from Europe including Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, and Germany, aims to foster innovation in seaweed industry across these regions. Funded by the EU's European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency, this three-year project will invest €9 million, focusing on six key investment cases that explore various applications of seaweed, such as sustainable pigment extraction, food products, biostimulants for crop growth, cosmetics, and monitoring technologies for seaweed farms. Additionally, the project will support thirty seaweed-focused startups and SMEs with financial incentives and dedicated training, in an effort to enhance the sustainability and competitiveness of the seaweed sector. Furthermore, regional awareness campaigns will be launched to promote the benefits of seaweed-based products, aiming to expand the market and stimulate economic growth.
