The Brazilian Association of Apple Producers (ABPM) has raised concerns over potential impacts on apple production due to excessive rainfall in Brazil's main apple producing region, the South. The association predicts that the 2023 harvest of over 1 million tons may not be achieved this year, although the quality of the apples remains high despite a slight reduction in size. The ABPM has engaged with the Minister of Agriculture to discuss potential solutions, including subsidies for insurance against climate damage, inclusion of apples in the basic food basket, and a reduction in funding rates.
