European crop monitoring agency, MARS, has forecasted a significant increase in rapeseed production due to a surge in acreage by 500,000 hectares, reaching almost 5.9 million hectares. Despite this, imports are expected to remain high at around 5.6 million tons, and consumption is anticipated to rise by 2.5 million tons. However, rapeseed prices are under pressure due to high imports and market pressure, despite support from palm oil prices and losses in soybean production in Argentina. From July 1, 2022, to February 27, 2023, the EU imported approximately 5.33 million tonnes of rapeseed from third countries, with Ukraine and Australia being the largest suppliers.
