Export of herring roe from Norway has significantly decreased

The value of exports increased by NOK 85 million, or 5 percent, compared to the first half of last year. Sales decreased by 16 percent. Poland, Egypt and Germany were the largest markets for herring in the first half of the year. For Norwegian spring spawning herring (NVG), catches in Norway increased by about 10,000 tonnes in the first half of the year, or just over 6 percent. As for the North Sea herring, there is a clear reduction in catches. “Difficult weather conditions make fishing difficult. About 48,000 tons were caught in the first half of the year compared to 95,000 tons in the same period last year, which is a 50% decrease,” says Jan Erik Johnsen, Pelagic Species Manager at the Norwegian Seafood Council.
