In October 2024, Moldova saw a significant trade activity in sunflower oil, with exports reaching 7.6 thousand tons and imports coming in at 1.7 thousand tons, resulting in a export-to-import ratio of 4.5:1. The country primarily exported crude oil to Romania, Turkey, and Bulgaria, with Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Romania being the main markets for packaged sunflower oil. Ukraine was the dominant supplier of imported packaged sunflower oil, which enjoys a lower price than locally produced oil, despite Moldova's strong position as a raw sunflower oil exporter. The demand for finished sunflower oil products is on the rise, highlighting the need for the country to boost its sunflower oil processing capacity and expand exports of value-added products.
