The Interstate Tobacco Industry Union (SindiTabaco) recently held a meeting to formalize the conclusion of the pre-inspection for the 2023/24 tobacco harvest, a requirement for the bilateral trade protocol between Brazil and China. The meeting was conducted hybridly, with participation from various agencies, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA), the General Administration of Customs of the Republic of China (GACC), and the tobacco industry.
The pre-inspection involved analyzing 54 batches from eight companies for nine quarantine pests, as per the agreement between Brazil and China. All results were negative for the specified pests, indicating the quality of Brazilian tobacco. The GACC representative expressed satisfaction with the outcomes and mentioned that the shipments should be processed promptly. This partnership is crucial for the Brazilian tobacco sector, as China is the second largest importer of Brazilian tobacco, following Belgium.
