Greece: Feta exports to Canada are increasing, but it is among the cheapest cheeses

Exports of feta cheese to Canada are doing well, says a survey conducted by the Greek Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs (OEF) in Toronto. Specifically, between 2018 - the year of signing the EU-Canada Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) - and 2023 (January-November data) there was an increase in feta exports in value by 111% reaching 9 million euros and an increase in quantity by 49% reaching 980 tons. There are several types of feta and "fetta" type cheeses on the Canadian market. According to the provisions of CETA, the right to use the brand name is reserved for Canadian producers, either as feta or accompanied by the designation "kind", "type", "style", "imitation" or similar and as long as the geographical origin of the product.
