The Ministry of Agriculture in Belawan has observed a significant surge in applications for sweet potato flour export to Japan, with a two-fold increase from January to June 2020 compared to the previous year. The total export volume reached 442 tons, valued at Rp. 2.2 billion. This flour is primarily made from sweet potato peels or waste and is used as an alternative feed ingredient in Japan. The Ministry is working in collaboration with agricultural stakeholders in North Sumatra to further improve synergy and encourage new entrepreneurs in export activities. Despite the pandemic, Indonesia's agricultural exports have seen a 12.66% increase compared to the previous year, as per BPS data.
