Between January and May of 2024, Uzbekistan experienced a 10.4% increase in vegetable and fruit exports, reaching 722.1 thousand tons, valued at $420 million. Russia was the primary consumer, accounting for over 32% of exports. Other significant buyers included Pakistan, Kazakhstan, China, and Afghanistan. The exports included large revenues from onions, cabbage, and mung beans. However, experts at EastFruit warn of potential losses for exporters, farmers, and the country's budget due to low export prices in the early months, and challenges such as stagnation in the fruit and vegetable export market and the decline of Uzbekistan's greenhouse business, particularly in competition with Turkmenistan.
