U.S. dairy product exports in June saw a slight decline but remained strong in cheese and whey categories, with a 9% surge in cheese sales and a 12% increase in whey exports. However, nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder, lactose, and milk protein concentrates experienced a decline. China and Brazil were the main importers of U.S. whey. Despite China's demand, overall U.S. dairy shipments to the country fell by 1%. However, exports to Southeast Asia, Central America, and Mexico saw growth. Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) member cooperatives secured over 5.8 million pounds of product for CWT-assisted sales in 2024. U.S. dairy heifer replacements and embryo sales also experienced a decrease in June. Alfalfa hay exports also saw a decline in June but remained the leader in U.S. agricultural exports. The U.S. Department of Commerce estimated the trade balance in June to be -$3.582 billion, showing a slight decrease from the previous month.
