The European Union is projected to experience a notable decline in cereal production in 2024, with significant decreases in Poland and France. This overall reduction, estimated at 4.7% compared to 2023, is due to lower yields and a decrease in the cultivated cereal area, now at 48.6 million hectares with an average yield of 5,300 kilos per hectare. Adverse weather conditions have played a major role in this decline. While Spain has seen an increase in production, it has also faced a reduction in cereal area over recent years. The production of soft wheat and barley in the EU is expected to drop significantly due to these factors.
