The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has initiated the export of processed chicken from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, with an annual target of 300 tonnes and a procurement budget of RM3 million. The first shipment, containing 12 tonnes, was sent out with a lower price than the current market rate, aiming to fulfill Sabah's demand previously met by imports from Thailand and China. This move not only provides a more affordable option for Sabah consumers but also aims to support local farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs by improving marketing opportunities. The initiative is part of the FAMA Act 141 amendment, which allows the agency to manage livestock product marketing, and aims to stimulate collaboration among stakeholders in the poultry industry.
