The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is urging Indonesian fisheries to embrace the blue economy concept, a sustainable economic model rooted in natural and local principles. Despite challenges due to its novelty and lack of awareness among Indonesian fishermen, the FAO has already achieved significant progress, including a $78.5 million disbursement from the Global Environment Facility for 13 projects in Indonesia and other Asia Pacific countries. The FAO is also implementing projects like building a fishway to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable use in inland fisheries practices.
