The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) published updated forecasts for global grain markets on Friday. Global grain production is expected to increase by 4.4% in 2025, reaching 2.99 billion tons – a new record volume, with an increase expected across all major crops. In the new Grain Supply and Demand Bulletin, FAO forecasts that global grain consumption in 2025/26 will increase by 1.8% from the previous year to 2.929 billion tons, mainly due to abundant supplies and lower prices. Feed grain consumption is expected to grow faster. According to the updated data, global grain stocks are expected to increase by 5.7%, reaching a record 916.3 million tons. Thus, the ratio of stocks to consumption in 2025/26 is expected to rise to 31.1%, the highest level since 2017/18.
