FAO meat price index reaches record high in July

The FAO Meat Price Index reached an average of 127.3 points in July 2025, an increase of 1.5 points (1.2%) from June and 7.3 points (6.0%) from July 2024, hitting a new high. This increase was mainly driven by higher prices for beef and sheep meat, along with a slight rise in poultry meat prices, while pork prices decreased. World beef prices reached a new high, driven by rising Australian quotations and strong import demand, especially from China and the United States, which exceeded the available exportable supply. Robust global demand also contributed to the price increase in Brazil. Sheep meat prices rose sharply for the fourth consecutive month, reflecting the limited export supply from Oceania amid sustained global demand.
