Farmers in Nepal's Pathari Sanischare of Morang district are embracing cashew farming among other cash crops like dragon fruit, grapes, kiwi, and avocado. Seventy-five-year-old Bhubaneshwar Pokharel, a former teacher, has seen success with cashews, re-planting and selling seedlings, and believes the venture offers quick income. The Agriculture Branch of Urlabari Municipality has distributed 150 cashew seedlings to farmers, and demand is high. Nepal primarily imports cashew nuts from India and Vietnam, but local production could reduce dependence on imports. Cashews are valued for their nutritional benefits and are sold at high prices.
