Farmers in Panchgarh are experiencing high yields of litchi, with 525 tonnes expected from each hectare this year. The district has expanded its litchi cultivation area to 1000 hectares from last year's 850 hectares, growing five varieties of the fruit. Demand is high for the China 2, 3, and 4 varieties, selling for Taka 100 to 150 per bundle of 50. Abdul Malek, a farmer, successfully sold all his litchi for Taka 3 lakh to a wholesaler. The Department of Agricultural Extension urges farmers to use balanced fertilizers to further increase production.
