Tridge summary

(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeon Ji-hye = A project to enable Jeju citrus farmers to directly measure the sugar content and select and ship high-quality citrus is being actively pursued.

According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province on the 30th, the province is supporting the "2025 Jeju Citrus Sugar Content Data Construction Support Project by Growth Stage" to help farmers directly measure the sugar content of citrus and manage the data.

The province received applications for the project from July to August and selected 25 out of a total of 52 farms.

These farms will be provided with portable non-destructive sugar content meters, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, and a dedicated smartphone app.

Starting from October, the farmers will measure the sugar content of citrus in real-time from the harvest and record and analyze the data through the dedicated app.

In particular, using RFID technology, sugar content changes can be systematically managed by tree and area, ensuring that the optimal harvest time is not missed and only high-quality citrus is selected and shipped.

Until now, Jeju citrus farmers have relied on experience to determine the harvest time, but in the future, they will be able to decide the harvest time and method based on accurate sugar content measurements, which is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of citrus quality.
