The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia has initiated an investigation into the pricing of four food products: sunflower oil, mayonnaise, margarine, and edible table salt. The investigation was prompted by significant price increases for these products between the start of the year and January 27. The FAS has issued 62 requests to manufacturers, asking for information on production volumes, sales, and cost prices. The investigation is in line with the Federal Law No. 135- "On the Protection of Competition", which prohibits companies in a dominant market position from setting monopolistically high prices. The FAS threatens to impose antitrust measures, such as large fines and operational cease-orders, against any violators found in the food market.
