Muan County in Jeonnam Province is a major onion production area, accounting for about 15% of the nation's total onion production. As with any major production area, the price of onions in Muan County affects farmers' income and, by extension, the local economy. Therefore, stabilizing onion prices has always been a challenge for Muan County. This is why the Jeonnam Agricultural Research Institute has been pouring effort into onion processing. The result of these efforts is the development of a consumer-oriented "Brown Onion Sauce," a caramelized onion product based on analysis of agri-food consumption information by the Rural Development Administration.
