The president of the NGO Semear, Silvana Cunha, explains that the initiative is essential to maintain the functioning of the social activities offered to the community. "The NGO was created on April 11, 2016 with the objective of assisting underprivileged children in our neighborhood. We offer school reinforcement, drawing, capoeira, jiu-jitsu, dance, soccer, and other activities, always with a snack. We also make clothing donations, serve about 250 bowls of soup on Saturdays, and distribute a grocery bag to registered families. At Christmas, we deliver around a thousand gifts to the children," comments Silvana. She states that the support provided by the Harvest Opening has a direct impact on the continuity of the NGO. "With the proceeds from the parking lot we can pay the rent for the entire year and keep the bills paid.
