Fisheries New Zealand is soliciting public feedback on a proposal to reduce fishing pressure on blue cod in the Marlborough Sounds. The proposal aims to address overfishing and increase the population of blue cod, which has been negatively impacted by high fishing levels and other factors. The proposal includes extending the seasonal closure of the fishery and other measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of the fishery. An advisory group consisting of tangata whenua, fishers, and local residents has also identified additional measures to improve the sustainability and abundance of the fishery.
