Fever among consumers, pistachios reach US $8.8 MM mark in imports in Brazil in 2023

In recent years, pistachios have won over Brazilians and become one of the most sought-after ingredients in the culinary world, especially in sweets and desserts. As a result of this phenomenon, imports of this oilseed, typical of the Mediterranean region, saw a significant increase to meet demand, reaching a total of US＄ 8.8 MM, equivalent to 608 tons. This is what a study carried out by Vixtra, a foreign trade fintech, reveals based on data made available by the Foreign Trade Secretariat. The period analyzed covers the last two decades, starting in 2003, when pistachio imports still had a modest amount of US＄ 0.4 MM in Brazil. However, in 2013, the numbers expressed a significant spike, reaching US＄7.3 MM. After that, the following years showed a decline, plummeting to US＄ 2.8 MM by 2021. The scenario grew again in 2022, when pistachios began to appear as the protagonist of numerous recipes, arousing the curiosity of Brazilians and resulting in total US＄ 4.5 MM in imports. In ...
